Prepping for extraction

When we went Snuba Diving in Jamaica, our guide handed me a conch shell. We thought it was empty. He told us we could keep it. We brought it home in our suitcase & it sat on Wyatt’s bedside table for a week. Mom walked into his room on Saturday morning & it smelled like a dead animal. It was nasty. She thought it might be the apple core left in the garbage, but once that was removed, it still smelled. Sure enough, there was a hermit crab in the shell we brought home & sadly died somewhere along the way. We figured we’d make the most of it & remove the crab to be “dissected”. We put it in the freezer for 24 hours, boiled it for 20 minutes & then used tweezers to remove it from the shell.
